Acting Surgeon General Announces National Initiatives to Reduce Children's Exposure to Secondhand Smoke
Acting Surgeon General Kenneth Moritsugu released an excerpt summarizing key scientific evidence on the serious health risks that secondhand smoke poses to children. The publication, Children and Secondhand Smoke Exposure, is excerpted from the 2006 Surgeon General's Report on The Health Consequences of Involuntary Exposure to Tobacco Smoke.
The Acting Surgeon General joins the American Academy of Pediatrics to announce a new partnership to protect the nation's children from secondhand smoke. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Administration for Children and Families will also highlight their joint initiative to reduce children's secondhand smoke exposure among the hundreds of thousands of children who participate in the national Head Start program.
