Better Breathers Club: COPD Awareness
Multilingual COPD outreach and awareness in Los Angeles County
BREATHE LA’s Better Breathers Program is a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) awareness and education program that serves communities in Los Angeles County, providing information and services in both English and Spanish.
COPD is a pulmonary disease that obstructs the airways of the lungs making it hard to breathe, and is the third leading cause of death in the United States, killing more than 120,000 Americans each year. More than 12 million Americans are currently diagnosed with COPD, including 1.6 million people in California. COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, progresses slowly and over time, makes it very difficult to breathe. There is no cure for COPD, but is manageable if diagnosed early.
