BREATHE LA FOR COPD AWARENESS DAY WEB CONFERENCE

**Presentation slides from the event available for download below**

On November 18, 2009 (12pm - 1pm) BREATHE LA is hosting a web conference featuring physicians, nurse educators, and Respiratory Therapy students at LA Valley College, Santa Monica City College, West Coast Community College, East Los Angeles City College.

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. The most common manifestations are emphysema and chronic bronchitis. BREATHE LA is convening students and preceptors to discuss COPD in the greater L.A. Community and plan for involvement in our Better Breathing Programs.

The web conference will demonstrate an ensuing research project that investigates the impact of Yoga on COPD management. Preceptors and students are joining with BREATHE LA to increase COPD awareness in the medical community and public.

The COPD Awareness Day Web-Conference will feature these COPD experts to share their latest findings:

• Dr. Heather Jones (Cedars-Sinai) and Yoga instructor
• Brenda DaCosta, Faculty & preceptor, West Coast College, Clinical Instruction
• Guy Soo Hoo, MD, BREATHE LA Board member
• Claudia Medina, BREATHE LA Health Educator

BREATHE LA annually funds innovative research in COPD and translates findings to Better Breathers Club educational workshops.

COPD Awareness Day activities take place as part of an ongoing BREATHE LA and COPD Learn More Breathe Better® campaign, an awareness campaign of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. For more information, visit www.LearnAboutCOPD.org.
