Teens Helping Teens Quit Smoking 4-U-N-I Red Ribbon Week Activities

BREATHE LA 4-U-N-I (For You And I) Teens Helping Teens Quit Smoking was created in 2007 as a student-led, BREATHE LA supported, teen-to-teen quit smoking program. 4-U-N-I  Teens Helping Teens Quit Smoking chapters are active at Beverly Hills High School, Granada Hills High School and  St. Bernard High School. 4-U-N-I inspires and supports peer-to-peer teen quit smoking and can be implemented in other high schools with materials available on BREATHE LA website www.breathela.org .
            This week, BREATHE LA 4-U-N-I Students are taking their message to school with Red Ribbon Week activities. ( see below )
 and are preparing for a Text-to-Quit event for WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY 2009.

           BREATHE LA 4-U-N-I Students created animated PSAs highlighting the dangers of smoking which were unveiled on World No Tobacco Day 2008 at the BodyWorlds3 Exhibit at the California Science Museum and can now be accessed on YouTube via BREATHE LA website http://www.youtube.com/BreatheCaliforniaLA

(activity will take place throughout the day)

Ø      Create red ribbons and pass them out to students, stressing the  dangers of tobacco use and health effects

Ø      Pass out flyers

Granada Hills High School

Wednesday, October 29th  (activity will take place during lunch time)

Ø      Create, wear and pass out red ribbons to students.

Ø      Wear red shirts to stress the significance of Red Ribbon Week

Ø      Create and Post flyers

Ø      Set up booth outside cafeteria  w/ a true/false game

St. Bernard High School

Friday, October 24th/Saturday, October 25th, October 31st (activity will take place during Homecoming football game and dance and another football game as they have the biggest turnout)

Ø      Create red ribbons and pass them out to students, stressing the  dangers of tobacco use and health effects

Ø      Set up a true/false ring toss at football games (winners get a prize)

 

 

Although, Red Ribbon Week traditionally takes place from October 18th-26th, there has been a scheduling conflict due to exams and Homecoming activities at the schools, therefore some dates have been pushed back to the following week.

 

BREATHE LA 4-U-N-I Teens Helping Teens Quit Smoking will also take part in the Great American Smoke Out-  November 20th to continue with their awareness-raising efforts.
