4-U-N-I Inspires Teens to Quit Smoking

Founding members of the Beverly Hills High School - BREATHE LA partnership youth tobacco cessation initiative reported before a Board of Director's meeting in Dec. 2007. The 4-U-N-I program is designed to inspire, support, and assist youth to quit smoking.

BREATHE LA’s 4-U-N-I youth peer-to-peer smoking prevention group is promoting World No Tobacco Day in conjunction with Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS 3 exhibition’s “I Quit” smoking cessation program on May 31 at the California Science Center.

BREATHE LA’s 4-U-N-I youth peer-to-peer smoking prevention group is promoting World No Tobacco Day in conjunction with Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS 3 exhibition’s “I Quit” smoking cessation program on May 31. The event, which will feature student representatives from Beverly Hills High School’s 4-U-N-I chapter, lung health professional Dr. Giovanni Smith, and kid-friendly activities from Radio Disney, takes place from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the California Science Center.

Padilla Bill Aims to "Snuff Out Smoking in Rental Units"

Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Van Nuys, has introduced legislation to that allows landlords to ban smoking inside rental units. "The goal here is to try to provide smoke-free housing for folks who live in multiunit buildings in California," Padilla said. "More than 30 percent of California residential units are multifamily dwellings. So if you're a family hoping to live in a smoke-free environment, it's currently next to impossible to find a smoke-free unit."

One Billion Smoking Deaths by 2100, according to World Health Organization Study

"Smoking could kill 1 billion people this century because countries aren't doing enough to combat the deadly epidemic, according to a World Health Organization report funded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg." reports New York Daily News. "As a global community, we can't allow this to happen," said WHO director Margaret Chan. "The tobacco epidemic is entirely man-made."
