On behalf of those we serve with debilitating lung disease and our Volunteer Board, I would like to thank you for your support. The need for our services in the Los Angeles County area continues to grow more critical each and every year.
As COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) has been designated as the third highest cause of death in the United States by the CDC, your support will allow us to implement COPD programs to help promote early detection and allow for a higher quality of life for those who live with COPD.1 Some of these programs include Adult Lung Health outreach in the Boyle Heights area providing health screenings to hundreds of at risk families. We also have Better Breather Clubs™ established in parts of Los Angeles to help seniors cope with COPD and other lung diseases.
Last year 129,000 (52%) of children with asthma created 1.2 million absences which lead to missed learning opportunities and reduced school funding.2 Our O24u® program helps over 8,000 students a year understand how to manage environmental triggers to reduce asthma attacks. While BREATHE LA is doing great work, there are more people that need our help.
We view your generous gift as a first step in a long and prosperous partnership for years to come. We are grateful you are joining us on our mission to promote clean air and healthy lungs through research, education, advocacy and technology.
